It is with deep concern and a heavy heart that we write to you regarding the recent disturbing events that have unfolded in Georgia. Last night, a shocking act of aggression took place at the central office of the United National Movement, where a group of 60 individuals launched a violent attack, causing significant damage to the premises. The response from law enforcement was severely delayed, raising serious questions about the safety and security of civil society and political activists in Georgia. This incident is just one of many instances of escalating state-sponsored violence and repression under the current regime.
The oppressive nature of the Georgian Dream regime has been further highlighted by the re-initiation and enforcement of Kremlin-inspired laws on "foreign influences." This is evidenced by the violent dispersal of peaceful demonstrators, targeted brutal attacks on activists such as David Katsarava and politicians such as leaders of UNM Levan Khabeishvili and Dimitri Chikovani, as well as leaders of other opposition parties. The regime has also been making phone calls to thousands of citizens from hidden numbers with threats and insults, vandalizing the offices of non-governmental organizations and political parties, and painting the residences of leaders and activists with inscriptions such as "Foreign agents" and "Sellers of the Motherland”. There have also been ambushes of masked people near the homes of political opponents. These actions, which include intimidation tactics and defamation campaigns, endanger the fundamental freedoms of Georgian citizens and undermine the rule of law.
 
The open threats made by oligarch Ivanishvili at a recent demonstration further highlight the grave situation facing Georgia. In a bold statement, oligarch Ivanishvili openly incited hostility towards the United National Movement, indicating a systematic targeting of dissenting voices. The involvement of law enforcement and security structures in perpetrating state-sponsored violence is deeply troubling, as is the complicity of organized gangs aligned with the ruling party, particularly with the members of the political council of GD Dimitri Samkharadze MP, and Tbilisi mayor Kakha Kaladze.
 
We urge the international community to condemn these acts of state terror and take a firm stand against the flagrant violation of human rights and democratic principles in Georgia. It is crucial that effective measures, including individual sanctions, be taken to curb the alarming influence of the Russian regime within the country and to safeguard the rights and freedoms of the Georgian people.
 
Furthermore, let us not overlook the broader implications of such actions on Georgia's EU future. The erosion of democratic values and the intimidation of civil society threaten to undermine the progress towards EU integration and the consolidation of a free and open society.
